Adoption of social media by online newspapers of Kashmir
The sites of online newspapers in Kashmir were surveyed individually and the social media tools available on theirwebsites were studied. It was found that vernacular online newspapers of Kashmir are more in need of evolving and existingmedia structures and practices. Incorporating social media in the newspapers will help to facilitate conversations across avast geographical expanse

Growth and Development of Oriental Libraries in India
India is a vast repository of different cultures, both because it was invaded by a number of foreign countries and peoples, and because of its contacts with people from the East. The languages from those Eastern countries are part of Indian literature. The literature in those Eastern languages created India \u27s Oriental libraries. This article traces the history of those libraries, which contain the literature pertaining to Oriental studies and languages. Oriental in this context refers to the ancient Near East, including India, Persia (Iran), and ancient Arabia, among other places, and the languages and literatures of those places and peoples
LOCKSS, CLOCKSS & PORTICO: A LOOK INTO DIGITAL PRESERVATION POLICIES
Digital preservation is the process of preserving information in the digital form. By digital form we mean a non- print form. Information is moving from print to web (non-print) and it has become easy for masses especially the scholarly population to access information on the web from anywhere 24*7. Since digital information is more prone to damage and loss than print information, therefore, it is imperative to protect access to this information not only for the benefit of present but for future generation as well. Various initiatives and policies are currently in place to ensure the long term preservation of digital information. LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, and PORTICO are the three major digital preservation initiatives aimed at protecting and preserving the digital content for its long term access and use. The current study provides an overview of how these three initiatives started and how these policies function in collaboration with publishers and libraries for long term digital content preservation

The availability of research on web is an important factor to determine its societal impact. The inability of traditional citation based metrics to provide a complete picture of web based scholarly content has given rise to alternative or to better say complementary way of measuring the impact of research, “Altmetrics”. The phenomenon of altmetrics has received global attention for its role to share research and allows visualization of important and interesting papers from a specific research area and time period. The current study attempts to analyze the articles (Top 100) that have caught the public attention in 2015 as revealed by the Altmetric.com. The paper explores the disciplinary nature, contributing source, publishing body, authorship and collaboration pattern of the articles. It also spotlights the Institutional and geographical distribution of the articles along with the tools where articles were shared and discussed. The study is first of its kind to analyze the articles that have made their mark on the social media in the year-2015

The journal literature in the field of library and information science has grown exponentially. A few countries publish agood number of library and information science journals and India is also in the race. The study researches the growth anddevelopment of library and information science journals globally with special reference to India. It has been found thatpublication of LIS journals gained momentum from third quarter of 20th century. Compared to global scenario, the visibilitystatus of Indian LIS journals is not promising
Managing Knowledge Repository in Kashmir: Leap towards a Knowledge Based Society
Knowledge is considered as the lifeline of global economy and its proper management leads to successful knowledge economies. Knowledge based society calls for effective knowledge management and a great need is felt in Kashmir, where it is in its teething stage. Times immemorial, knowledge in different forms has emancipated from Kashmir valley but due to number of reasons it couldn’t find its judicious use. So, a need to develop a knowledge based repository to enable collaboration among different societal organizations across the barriers of time and space is felt. Open Access Journals in Library and Information Science:The Story so Far
Abstract
Purpose: Internet has triggered the growth of scholarly publications and every
discipline is witnessing an unremitting growth in the scholarly market. Open
access, the product of Internet has also captured the global disciplines. Library
and Information Science, is also witnessing a dramatic growth in the open access
field. The study explores the status of open access titles in the field of Library and
Information Science (LIS). Various characteristics highlighting open access titles in
the field of LIS are featured in the study.
Design/Methodology/Approach: A systematic method for characterizing the
open access titles in the field of Library and Information Science was carried out
by extracting the data from Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Open J-
Gate, and Ulrichsweb.com.
Findings: The results clearly reveal an expounding growth of open access titles in
the field of Library and Information Science. Commercial publishers have also
joined hands as open access market players. Indexing policies of OA titles in LIS
need to be restructured and low income nations have to evolve in the field of OA
bazaar.
Research Implications: The study will be helpful for the researchers in exploring
the open access titles in the field of LIS. Furthermore, it can act as an eye opener
to the scholarly world to know about the real status of open access titles in the
field of LIS.
Future Research: Future research can be carried out to expedite the innovative
